Critics, historically, love to shit on horror movies.
Jordan Peele’s directorial debut Get Out (2017) was nominated for four Academy Awards — marking a rare occurrence wherein a Best Picture nominee wasn’t boring as fuck. But even with heaps of acclaim, several stuffy Academy voters dismissed it, refusing to watch it at all.
Horror is a disrespected genre, but the works of directors like Peele, Ari Aster, and Robert Eggers have given way to the rise of elevated horror. Stuffy folks now say the genre has been revived.
While we’re definitely seeing a resurgence, any horror buff will tell you that the good stuff has never stopped coming out.
So, here are a handful of horror movies that might’ve slipped by you, from 2009 and on.
