I regret to inform you that I have started a podcast

Mark (my husband) and I are often surprised by how many beloved movies have bad reviews. Time and time again, we find that one of our favorites has a certified shit score on Rotten Tomatoes. Maybe that speaks to our taste, more than anything, but it did spark an idea.

Enter 50 Percent Fresh, a podcast wherein we discuss movies that have a negative critical consensus — around 50% (sometimes more, oftentimes less). Are they certified stinkers, or were they just misunderstood?

We kicked off the show with a movie that has a foothold in our hearts: AIRHEADS (1994), with a paltry 29% on RT.

Brendan Fraser, Steve Buscemi, and Adam Sandler star as an unsuccessful rock band, The Lone Rangers. Desperate to get their demo played on the air, the group breaks into a radio station. But when met with resistance, they wind up holding the station employees hostage with realistic toy guns.

The reviews were largely negative, but it’s almost universally loved by people who’ve, at one time or another, drank in a van parked outside of an all-ages show. We discuss AIRHEADS, how it connects to the punk satire site The Hard Times, LIVING IN OBLIVION (1995), and Nakatomi Plaza.

What has two Ghostbusters, one Kramer, and a member of Spinal Tap? This movie.

The first episode is available on Apple Podcasts, Libsyn (web browser player thing), Soundcloud, and Spotify.

We hope you like it!
